SOMERVILLE ISD HEALTH GUIDANCE

 TEA REQUIREMENTS 2022-2023

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced requirements for the 2022-2023 school year, and SISD will comply with TEA and the Governor’s orders. Masks are optional. SISD respects the rights of our parents to choose what is best for their children.

SISD wants to remind parents and staff that with any virus, the best way to prevent the spread of illness in our schools is by staying home when you are ill. The district will continue to follow the same everyday procedures used to help prevent the spread of viruses:

  • cleaning and sanitation procedures in all of our classrooms,

  • washing your hands often with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer,

  • cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, and

  • staying at home when you are sick.

 Lab Confirmed Positive Case

Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school if the child has COVID-19 symptoms (as listed below) or is lab-confirmed with COVID-19. Students who do receive a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result are required to stay home for 5 days. These 5 days are counted as excused absences. The campus will assist with makeup assignments.

SISD will not do contact tracing. Parents may opt to keep their child home if the child was in close contact with anyone who tested positive. Consistent with school notification requirements for other communicable diseases, and consistent with legal confidentiality requirements, schools must notify all teachers, staff, and families of all students in a classroom or extracurricular or after-school program cohort if a test-confirmed COVID-19 case is identified among students, teachers or staff who participated in those classrooms or cohorts.
